ENTRY FOR HOW DOES MODERN HEALTHCARE TOUCH LIVES BY INDIBLOGGER AND APOLLO HOSPITALS
The modern era is characterised
with the advancement of science and technology. For science, there is nothing
impossible. There has been advancement in the field of medicine. Today, there
are very few diseases or medical disorders that cannot be treated.
However, while it is becoming
increasingly efficient and can provide for all, I am always worried about the
availability of health-care for
everyone, everywhere. Though I know that there is a long way to go, I have found
that there are many things that modern healthcare has innovated and invented to
realise this aim to provide “healthcare
for all”. Rather than writing anything technical, I would like to mention
some personal experiences about how modern day healthcare has helped and
touched lives.
In
my first experience,
I would like to share that few days back I got a call from a friend and he told
me that his uncle has come from Europe to India for a month. He invited me to his
house. As his uncle was a known academician, I was also eager to interact with
him
We sat down in the evening and
during the conversation that went from foreign culture, systems, policies,
economic to Indian lifestyle and development scenario, he told that he came
here for a heart surgery. I found it strange as I could not imagine that a
person who has all access to superior hospitals across Europe will come to India
for a surgery.
I expressed this thought to him
and he remarked, "Because many Indian hospitals are as good as hospitals
in Europe and they do the same treatment at a lesser cost that. So I came here
as I will get a chance to meet my family and relatives here as well will be cured
at a lesser cost. It’s kind of medical tourism." At that time, I had felt
a sense of pride.
In
another experience,
I was in my hometown when I heard that one of my aunts was taking help from Apollo
for her disease. I felt nice that she was taking one of the best healthcare but
I felt bad that she had not met me as she had come to Delhi. I had expressed my
feelings to her, “Mami, this is so good. But then if you were in Delhi, Why
didn't you call me?” She laughed and replied, "Arrey Beta, I never went to
Delhi". She then told me about the telemedicine facility of Apollo which allowed her to take advice
from best doctors of the country, at an affordable cost and most importantly,
without going to Delhi. I went to their website to read more about this
facility. I was amazed and also proud. Telemedicine seems to be an effective
method to ensure that best healthcare reaches everyone, everywhere. In fact, I
learnt that this telemedicine network is not widespread in India but has also been
helping people in other countries like in our neighboring countries, in Middle
East and African countries through its dedicated centres, safe and secure data
transmission network. This gift of
modern healthcare has ample scope to provide healthcare to everyone everywhere
and is based on equality.
In
a third experience
I, as a community worker, was involved in an educational campaigning in a sub
urban area of Chennai. At the same time, another team of health volunteers came
there. Though I had finished my work there, but I decided to stay back and also
volunteer in their cause. I approached them and got to know that they were
raising awareness about child healthcare to prevent and to detect health
disease. As they told me, I was reminded of the story of a boy who had died due
to the lack of money for a heart operation. I shared this experience with this
team and asked them what step they could have taken. They then told me about
the Apollo Hospital's SACHi or Saving A Child’s Heart Initiative.
"We not only spread awareness to protect from heart diseases, but also
identify the children who may be affected with this and in those cases, when a
child is identified, if he/she is from a lower economic group, we, at SACHi,
provide full or subsidized facility to cure him/her. Even after the operation,
we keep caring for them”, a young doctor remarked. I was happy to learn the
great work that Apollo healthcare was doing for the future citizens of India.
In
fact all these experiences are only few of my experiences. There are many
others. Modern
Healthcare in common man thinking is seen as a costly affair for the common
people but as we saw, the situation is not black and white. It is very much people-friendly
through its objective and working. It strives to provide proper healthcare without
any discrimination. It strives to extend its reach to the common masses and the
low income category people.
In this respect, Modernhealthcare views proper healthcare as a
right of all. Apart from maintaining
ethical and professional values of care, follow ups, immediate response and
assistance and availability of world class facility at low cost, it also has special
treatments, free OPDs for poor, health camps, Disaster relief program, round
the clock services, specialists availability and other outreach programs. From
caring for International patients, especially of our neighbor countries to the
remote assistance through telemedicine network and health awareness campaigns,
the modern health care in India has
transformed itself.
