With fresh resolutions that we seek for the new, everyone wishes and promises to be a better person in life. Despite the fact that our society has so much progressed the people still believe that there are undesirable things that need to get rid of. And for that we are ready to take appropriate steps, starting this new year.
It would be meaningful to admit and realize that at least there is a day or week in the new year when we can look back and make a fresh start. We all must welcome this opportunity and must take steps, make resolutions to improve if nothing else but ourselves. The same is true for states, governments and communities also.
Kashmir, in its heydays, was a glorious and peaceful state, famous for its natural beauty and culture. With the folding and unfolding of many historical and political events, it has lost its glory and become more of a military base nowadays.
The transformation of a cultured and peaceful state in to a state marked by hostility and turmoil is conspicuous and saddening. There are many reasons that have brought this change, both external influences and internal problems. The real terror has been due to men with guns, be it uniforms or plain clothes. The most unfortunate thing is that the security personnel who are sent to protect have become the transgressors. People have appealed in courts for crimes and violence committed by army, they such complaint have failed to do justice to the people who have suffered. This is where the role of the state begins, and the victims have always been kept waiting and expecting with no results.
With hundreds of rape cases, fake encounters, illegal arrests and disappearances that have not been entertained even, Kashmir has raised its voice a thousand times. In many regions people have stopped sending their women to fields because they are too much afraid of the people sent for their security. People are full of anger, which gets more complicated with the problems of their families, friends and relatives.
In view of all these short comings, it becomes pertinent for the state to take measures for improving the situation. Government is well aware about the problems of the people here and it must take a serious note to changes the status quo.
Kashmir still delivers fragrance of its culture in the form of gestures, traditions and lifestyle. The govt needs to make new resolutions for the welfare of this state not merely with words and funds, but with the genuine motive of betterment of people. Old Kashmir can be a good resolution to work for in the new year.
